1. You must give the (myfree/myfast/myfine)forum.org link to your forum. A link should be given to the problem if at all possible. Do this whether you think it is important or not.
2. Search on the forum and on howtodoit for your problem before posting. 90% of the posts we get have easily found answers if you search on a couple of key words from your post. If this is not the case report the keywords you searched on and we will make sure search works for the next person to try the same search terms. Each time someone doesn't bother to use the search, questions accumulate in the forum making it harder for people to actually find answers! as people searching will end up finding the question and not the answer.
3. Keep it to one support question per thread, if you have another question start a new topic. This will help others using "search" to find answers.

Admin is asking you to post a link to your site. He also needs to know what template you are using. So he can help you. Some templates are not set up for the portals you are wanting to add, and some are.

Thanks admin. Really appreciate it. But the portals appear on every forum and topic i open. I would like them to just stay on the front page.

I think I did exactly what you are trying to do in my forum, I'll try and explain how I did it but I am not good at that king of thing.
Here is what it looks like on my forum: http://hme1.myfreeforum.org/index.php
I edited the index_body.tpl template to get it to show only in the main page of the forum. The code I'm about to show is what is directly above where I entered the code for the portal, just so you can see where I put it.
| Code: | <table width="100%" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="2" border="0">
<tr>
<td colspan="2" class="maintitle">{L_INDEX}</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="bottom" class="gensmall">
<!-- BEGIN switch_user_logged_in -->
{LAST_VISIT_DATE}<br />
<!-- END switch_user_logged_in -->
{CURRENT_TIME}<br />
<a href="{U_INDEX}" class="nav">{L_INDEX}</a></td>
<td align="right" valign="bottom" class="gensmall">
<a href="{U_SEARCH_UNANSWERED}">{L_SEARCH_UNANSWERED}</a><br />
<!-- BEGIN switch_user_logged_in -->
<a href="{U_SEARCH_NEW}">{L_SEARCH_NEW}</a><br />
<a href="{U_MARK_READ}"><strong>{L_MARK_FORUMS_READ}</strong></a>
<!-- END switch_user_logged_in -->
</td>
</tr>
</table> |
And here is what I added right after that to get the time, top posters and recently online users boxes to show.
| Code: | <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2">
<tr>
<td width="125" align="left" valign="top">
<!-- BEGIN switch_forum_view -->
<table><tr>
<td valign="top">
{MYFF.CURRENTTIME}
{MYFF.TOPPOSTERS}
{MYFF.VISITS}
</td></table>
<!-- END switch_forum_view -->
</td>
<td valign="top" align="center"> |
Now you may want to wait for admin or someone else who is better then I am at this stuff to say if there are nuances you need to know because you are using a different template, but I figured I'd share how I did it.

Again I am no expert at this, but if you want you could try and copy paste the second code I put in my other post right below this in your index_body.tpl:
| Code: |
<a href="{U_SEARCH_NEW}" class="nav">{L_SEARCH_NEW}</a><br /><a href="{U_SEARCH_SELF}" class="nav">{L_SEARCH_SELF}</a><br />
<!-- END switch_user_logged_in -->
<a href="{U_SEARCH_UNANSWERED}" class="nav">{L_SEARCH_UNANSWERED}</a></td>
</tr>
</table>
|
I think it will work, but you should try it in your "editor" account in case it doesn't.
Then switch the {MYFF.TOPPOSTERS} to the portals you want and delete the ones you don't.

And what's the deal with having to provide a link on every post??? Are the admin gong to go to the forum and fix problems/add things for us???
And as for locking threads for not providing 1!!! APMSL

If everyone follows the same protocol when asking a question it makes him answering them a thousand times easier, plus if you give all the things he asks for in the create topic page he will have a much easier time correctly solving your problem.
Basically, it makes everything easier, and for the amount of support he gives us for free you really shouldn't complain no matter what he asks for in our posts.

admin (no pm's please)

It is obvious that us knowing clearly the forum concerned is likely to help us with supporting it, and that we are in a much better position to know this than the person asking for support.
It is not a lot to ask, and persistent refusal is wasting our time, and simply will not be tolerated.

Ok mate fair enough. Will answer and post what you ask in future.

One of the key reasons we continue to request not only the forums link, but one to where the problem can be seen if possible, is because some people have in the past had control over more than one forum, so having that link stops us guessing and allows us to see the template if it is a cosmetic issue or one where and profile has been set to auto display and the person has added the code manually for it to show twice, all this helps us see the issue more clearly.
