You get 2gb of space for nothing and no ads at all

Wow, I salute you. I've been looking for a place like this, and lo and behold, here it is.
Hooray!

I am always very wary about the phrase "totally free, no adverts" all they are generally going to do, is to sucker a lot of people in and then lay the adverts on thick at a point where you are stuck
This service here, costs $1000's per month to run, so how can a totally free service really work?

I visited that site, and they seem to have a paypal donation system going, it's clever, basically you get 2GB of traffic each month, however, if you want more, you enable paypal donation advertisement on your site, and that money goes to these guys that host all these sites and they in turn give you some more bandwidth.
They are hosting over 500,000 sites, so I assume the paypal donations add up, maybe this is a carry-over venture from one of their other enterprises, and they are looking to generate profit eventually, or perhaps already are through sheer amount of volume.
They are already introducing a payment scheme for added hosted site priviliges, 'due to user demand' they reckon, who knows, maybe it works, or maybe the whole thing will come crashing down eventually.

Do you know how many donations we get from asking for paypal donations, which we used to do a certain amount when the system really was big time loss making? Just about zero!
I am afraid I would never set foot on a system unless I understood that the financial model was workable.

Well that's a sensible approach. I guess donations never were a popular source of revenue. But look at wikipedia. That place rakes in $300,000+ per quarter. (every three months). And it's all donations. It's what keeps them going.
But the site I'm making on there will just be a frontend for my forum being hosted by your service on here. Nothing long term or critical.
Just a recruitment tool. Potential members are everyone but luring them in and snagging them is something else entirely.

Take a look at the detail on wiki donations though! Despite their size they are not surviving on "micro" donations from a lot of people!
