Forum index editing. Help neededBefore I start this, I have to say that I have spent half a day reading the support on portals and have tried putting that info to work in my forum with no luck.
I am trying to edit my forum index so that it includes a menu on the left with posters, sticky posts etc. I'm not too bothered what it says on the left, so long as there is a link to my forum, otherwise it wont be easy to get straight into the forum.
On the index page I want the latest posts. I have followed the instructions about portals on http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/ftopic262.php
The one I was trying to use was Front Page
I checked the info on installing portals here http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/ftopic263.php
Now my problems are: Where is the owners panel mentioned here http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/ftopic262.php ???
I have searched the support for this and it only turned up 2 results, none of them matching.
If you can point me in the right direction, or explain the pages I have already looked if I have not followed them properly.
How do I change the menu on the left so that it has a link to the forum? Do I just input a link to the forum? I have seen this and think I can do it easily, I just dont want to put another bit of code in there if i'm already doing it wrong.
My forum can be found at: http://mini.myfastforum.org/index.php
Thanks in advance.

http://myfastforum.org/index.php?...amp;task=loginforum&Itemid=27
gets you to your owners panel
and you don't need to edit the index body, just the two files mentioned here:

I did that, but the section that should show the posts is just blank.
I have logged into the control panel and don't know where to put this:
[FRONTPAGE]
title=Latest Articles
count=10
return_chars=200
show_title=1
Does it go into options section?
I have also done that.
Will this work when it is not the default template. I have it as the default for the editor, but didn't want to set it as default as there is no link for my forum. Wanted to make sure it worked first.
Many thanks

anything labelled that it needs to go into the owners panel, does need to go into the options tab.

I have put everything I need into the options section of the contol panel for both the menu on the left and the recent posts.
The menu on the left does not have a link to the forum and the posts aren't there.
like i said I have not set this as the default template as it doesnt seem to work. Am i doing everything right? Can I have both the menu and the recent post info in the control panel at once?
The logo is off center, if i follow the instructions to center it, will thet negatively affect the links or will it change them to the correct place as well?
here is a screen dump of what i see when logged in as the editor.

I can't see the link address of that page so I don't know if you editing the overall_header.tpl and overall_footer.tpl or the cms_index_body.tpl.
assuming it's the overall_header+footer you may have things in the wrong place, pm me your overall header and footer codes seperaterly and I'll add the codes to the right places, to which you can then change the portals to the ones you want.
Also what template are you using as I will test it out, before I send it back to you.

ThanksSorry for taking so long to reply. Had some other things to deal with. I will PM you both the header and footer in seperate PMs. If you could point out where I went wrong so I know for next time as I was sure I had followed the instructions pretty well.
Thanks again for your assistance.
