Zudane

the normal time on a forum is based off what you put for your timezone in the user control panel.  It varies per user.

Just go to the user control panel and to your settings, there should be an option for "daylight saving time in effect" or something similar.  I think phpbb2 has the option, I am certain phpbb3 does.
DavidGarden

will have a look thanks Dave

You have put some sort of time code in the overall_header.tpl. We don't know what code you have there?

By changing it board wide through general configuration in the admin panel, did you then edit the one for you profile via the edit profile link?

setting it boardwide will be the time guests and new members see, registered members will still have to edit theirs via their profile.

This does not set all user's to GMT-1. I believe this was said before. That only changes the time Guests and new members will see, NOT current members. Current members must change there timezone in there profile. (NOTE: You COULD do this for them but I suggest not otherwise you will have some erked-off members)

As for the daylight saving time the forum automatically changes to the new time as far as I know. (Unless you have some outside forum clock code like admin suggested.)

Daylight Savings Time hasn't even happened in my country yet due to halloween and things.  Wink
admin (no pm's please)

forums don't automatically apply DST. It has to be done in admin/configure and each user has to set their own profile time.

Hmmm a user even commented to me "oh cool the forum time is still correct".

I was still skeptic tho. So even if you live in one time zone you have to set it to a different one to compensate for DST? Since in phpBB2 there is no option that I know of.

DST occurs on Sunday for me.
Zudane

I'm not sure about bb2, but bb3 has a checkbox for "DST in effect" which automatically changes it an hour.

I am pretty sure there is something similar for bb2.

Well, from simply going to my profile on this forum, there is not a DST "feature", only "timezone".

it should be part of a macro or template addition.  Those are user based, not forum based.  It depends on what time zone each user uses, and the time shows for whatever the user has chosen.

You can test it here, go to your profile, change the timezone, and the time will change.
DavidGarden

hi thier does change but not right time for me  weird Dave in scotland
Zudane

Unless you added a separate javascript clock then that is what it should be.
DavidGarden

works perfectly gmt+1 but not minus 1 Dave.

I removed this tme from the forum but still shows the time on last posts an hour behind Dave. is it possible t0 take the time off last posts when you post it says the time posted if I can remove that then Ill get rid of the forum time
Zudane

I think you need to copy and paste what it shows, or preferably show a screenshot.

I have a feeling you are talking about something different than what is being explained.
DavidGarden

Back to the clock, DST has happened here (U.S.) now and the forum has adjusted accordingly. I don't know what makes it work, but it did. One thing I noticed though is a post time that is placed in the future, meaning the time posted has not happened yet. It's not even 7am here yet and I already have a post that has been posted at 7:25am Nov. 1st.
I'm_Hackin'_Bored!

I was wrong. The forum time has not changed. I suppose I must just set my timezone off by one on forums that are phpbb2.

Maybe consider a DST function for phpbb2? Honestly I can't imagine all my member's knowing to set there time zone off and will be confused about the time.   Not to mention other forum's and there member's. I'm off to change the time on all the forum's I'm a member of to prevent my own confusion later.  Wink

Hi thier this GMT+1 and GMT-1 is so confusing Ive only had this problem once and got round this by setting all users to GMT+1 and the forum to GMT+1 this works so althou we in scotland are GMT-1 Ill just try GMT and see what happens I know that its only the time no Big Deal but when you post a msg at 10.50pm and it says posted at 9.25pm confusing to say the least ever since they started pissing about moving our forums between servers nothing but trouble Ive had 15hrs of sorting my forum thru this and Im not happy about this but thats life just got to get on with it Best wishes
Zudane

Minutes being off is no major deal, because every computer around the world are bound to show slightly different times.

The DST option could be viable, wouldn't require much I think, just a check box that would add an hour to the forum time when selected.
DavidGarden

this would be ok if possible But this worked the last time I set the forum in general con fig to GMT+1 and the users set thier time everything was perfect our time went an hour forward no problem But since they started moving servers everything the support forum does affects peoples forums Im not complaining as support does a great job helping us all with our problems but why isnt this working now when I set it in general config to GMT-1 its all to hell I know its no Big Deal the clock But confusing to say the least Dave.
