Firefox and SecurityA week or so ago, I read about Firefox browser on this site, and downloaded it.
Yesterday, I had an experience with a trojan virus.
I was surfing with firefox. I have 3 antivirus programs active, plus a fire wall. I use AVG by Grisoft (free), F-Prot (purchased, made in Rikkyavik Iceland), and Pestpatrol. The firewall is Sygate Personal (free).
In the past, sometimes it is AVG which will first catch a virus, and sometimes it is F-Prot. Pestpatrol seems to be geared more towards spyware and keystroke loggers.
Firefox alerted me that I had chosen to open a certain file, and asked me which program I wished to use to open that file. This was the trojan from a website, starting to install. At the same moment, F-Prot flashed a message that it had detected a trojan (it named the trojan, but I was too panicked to pay attention to the name). I tried to click my way out of the situation, but F-Prot kept warning me, and the website kept trying to install the trojan, so I simply unplugged the computer. I then powered back up and ran a full scan with AVG, pestpatrol, and F-prot. No trojan was found.
It seems to me that firefox browser helped save the day by prompting me before it opened / executed a file. Who knows what might have happened had I been in Internet Explorer.

I really didn't think you could run more than ONE anti virus software! I had AVG and Norton and the whole PC locked. It was a full reformat job because it was slid. Each thought the other was a virus.

I won't have any AV crap actually installed on the system. I say use a firewall never visit crap sites and never download anything potentially dangerous.

with broadband in many homes, people will no doubt go down the bit torrent/p2p route. in that case an AV is a must

simple question about FirefoxOk Iinstalled Firefox.. it love it.. except one little irritation.
I made the mistake of telling it to remember my ID and password.
That's fine on login to my forum, but when I go to edit any user info... they automatically get xanthakita as a userid and ******** as a password!
That's not cool.
The question? How do I make Firefox forget that info?
I know I can go to the Firefox offical forums and sift through the data there, but I beleive it never hurts to ask those who may have had teh exact same problem first.
So, I appologize in advance if this seems like a "thick" question but that is life!
Thanks,
Bink

I'm confused now I seem to recall selectively clearing some saved form entry data in FF1 but cannot see an option in 1.5.

well that makes me feel marginally better. I looked for any option to do so and couldn't find it either.
I may have to do a regedit... which I don't want to do.. but...

No problem. I also use the settings button on there to clear private data on exit, very handy when I am using the PC at the office.
