Does anyone know what this IP address is?I know this is probably in the wrong forum, but I didn't know where to put it.
This IP address has been showing up on my forum for about a week now - they are not a member, they just appear in guests.
IP address: 210.150.10.79
I did a search for it, and it showed up as being from Tokyo, Japan. Is it a bot of some sort, and does anyone know who/what corporation it's for?
I'm just wondering as I haven't seen it before last week and now there are a few of them there at most times.

i wouldnt worry about it, its an information center. Could be a japenese web search bot or something else.

I got the same one. In 2 days he had been on my forum for 10 hours. I thought it was someone trying to copy my forum so i banned the IP.

A stupid thing to do.
How can you just assume someone was copying it? Many forums have 'lurkers', that be guests who don't register, or members who don't post.
You can't just go around banning IP's like that.

I've never actually banned an IP address. It's not advised really as many people can share the same IP based on their service provider. I have three or four people from the same area on my forum and they all have the same IP, so by banning the IP you could be stopping a number of Japanese people joining your forum.
I had MSN bots on for the first time last night too. Before this I've only had Jeeves/Teoma. No Googlebots yet though, just the advertising.

It is impossible for two computers/two people to have the same ip, unless :
1. They are in the same building on the same ISP
2. Some people have more than one account.
The IP is a set of rules for individual internet connections, and cannot be the same as they are used to identify your computer and location.

That's the one! We were a little bit confused as to why all the people on my forum from stoke seem to have the same IP number, but they all live really near each other, so maybe that explains it. It's not that they have multiple accounts either - they are all different people.

10 hours?!
That's pretty weird,but I wouldn't ban someone for that.
Maybe the person was just checking the site out to see if he wanted to join.Anyway,I had a similiar problem,there was someone from Exaland,France lurking on my sites just about everyday.I was getting the urge to ban his IP,but I just decided not to.

Yeah, but that could only be a wireless connection if people are living in different houses and have the same ip, and then it will still be different.
In college we have our own room with a p2p network and we all have the same ips' except one digit - the last one. mine is 192.168.1.2 the computer next to me is 192.168.1.3

actually - I am in sales - so when I am waiting to get into to see someone or just traveling I will use my blackberry to get on to a site...sometimes I put it back in my holster and hours later realize that I am still on the site..I can still be on the site while using my phone and calendar and email as well...food for thought
