converting from Phpbb2 to 3 synchronisationhttp://aspe.myfreeforum.org/ (now on phpbb3)This is just my testing forum. I have read the excellent guide on how to do the conversion between the 2 standards. However I think I am missing something. Should the forum be taken off line to stop new posts being added during the transition period. ? What I dont want is new posts appearing on old format not transferred to new format. Or is there an additional way to do a synchronisation after the conversation has taken place. In the guide it mentions about doing multiple sychs but I cannot see this option from the control panel. thanks |

You can prepare the phpbb3 site with one conversion and then convert again just taking the posts/members across.
So you do need to close down phpbb2 for this process which typically is only going to take 30 mins. Having done the final conversion you officially change to phpbb3 and "force" the link. Obviously you should pick your 30 mins to be at a quiet time for your forum. |

If I dont do the force link. Can I mess around with the version 3 format for days/weeks until I am happy, ie no time limit. ? (in reality I expect I can sort it fairly quickly but just want to be safe) thanks |

If you don't force the link you can play about "almost" indefinitely. | ||

I have done testing and now just about ready to do final conversion. When I do the force link. Is there any intervention needed at your end ? Or is it fully automatic. The reason I ask is obviously I want new forum to be online asap so trying to choose time of day to do it that is quick. I dont mind doing it at 2 am but if someone has to do something at your end during normal daytime hours is that better ? Hope that makes sense. thanks |

Done the transfer on my real forum tonight http://granalacant.myfreeforum.org/ So far 1 1/2 hours later new forum has still not appeared, still showing old one. Is there a problem ? thanks Robin.. ps I know I should go to bed but .... |
