Changing the headerHey,I was interested in changing my forum to phpbb3, however thought I would test it on a spair forum first, so I can check that I know what im doing! Can you please tell me how I change the header of my template? I am confused, because I tried to edit the template called 'prosilver' by going to 'Styles' at the top, and then click 'Templates'. It wouldnt let me, it said:
I then copied the prosilver style (I think), and installed: bargainsonline.myfreeforum.org1 - and clicked edit on that, and it came up with a dropdown box. the url is: http://bargainsonline.slarti3.myfreeforum.org Can you please tell me how I edit the logo at the top  . - I have tried!!

The dropdown box should contain a list of all the template files, and overall_header.tpl is there to alter the header. | ||

Hey, thanks, found it.
But where do I upload the new header to? Surely I need to upload the new header with the same name as the current header? Which is site_logo.gif ? |

Uploads go to the web directory, so you need to actually alter overall_header.tpl | ||

Im reading this guide:

I have done exactly what the howtodoitguide has told me, and I am pretty sure I did it right, and my logo has still not been replaced.
http://bargainsonline.slarti3.myfreeforum.org/ It is still showing the default logo in the top left, and it should be showing a 'Dontbebored' logo. The guide I followed was: http://howtodoit.myfabforum.org/v...;p=136&hilit=upload+logo#p136 And I used 'Guide 1'. I have refreshed several times, and also tried a different browser, and cleared my cookies and temp internet files, and it is still not showing the new one, just the old one.. Any ideas!?

Is your default template the one you have edited, or is it still set to the original?
If, as you say, you have done everything correctly, then this is the only thing I can think of |

That is one good thing to check... you edited one template, make sure that the one you are viewing with (preferably with the editor account) is set to view the one you edited, not the default one, which hasn't changed.
EX: You edited template b. But you're viewing the unchanged template a. Use the editor account to view template b to make sure it works correctly, then set template b to the default. |

Thanks for your reply - I truely see where you are coming from, but I am not sure how I check? Ill tell you what I have done, so you and try and see if im doing it right.. - I login to the Admin control panel - I click 'Styles' at the top - I click Imagesets in the left hand side - I then go to 'bargainsonline.myfreeforum.org1' on my list... I cant edit the 'bo2soft' one, as it says it has to be copied, but I am pretty sure I 'copied' it, and then I got 'bargainsonline.myfreeforum.org1' so thats why im editing that one.. - I click edit on bargainsonline.myfreeforum.org1 - I then click 'Select' where it says Main Logo - And this is what comes up: (Screenshot below)

Check that the full style for the bargainsonline.myfreeforum.org1 is set as active.
Go under users, and search for editor. Move the dropdown menu to profile, and change the "my board style" to "bargainsonline.myfreeforum.org1". This will make the editor profile view the updated style instead of the old one. Next, log out of that account, and log into the editor account, and you should see the new style working correctly (if it all went to plan). If everything works correctly, then go back to the ACP and to styles, then under bargainsonline.myfreeforum.org1 (or change the name if you'd wish), and set the option for "make default" to yes. This will set this style as the one everybody views when they use the board. Make sure you make a copy of that style again before you go editing again, so that you still have one working copy, and a test copy for the editor to view. |

I have just changed the 'Template' and 'Imageset' dropdown to bargainsonline.myfreeforum1 whatever it is, however there isnt an option for that in 'Theme'. I am guessing that the theme needs to stay as bo2soft thing.. ? Can you please check for me, that on the top left, it is showing a DontBebored logo? http://bargainsonline.slarti3.myfreeforum.org/ Thanks very much! & Thanks for all your help, and bravo, and all of you who posted here! |

You know the image on the top RIGHT.. how can I change/edit that? I can't see it anywhere, in any of the dropdowns! According to what it says when I right click it, its called testbanner.jpg - and I cant find it! Do you know where it would be? I want to edit/remove it |

Your banner shows up, so you did that correctly... I cannot answer about the other, though I can say that it should show up in your overall_header.tpl If you aren't sure, I wouldn't say messing with it... and if you do mess with it, make sure you do it on a template that is not currently in use. Like I said copy it, and view it through the editor account before you change the template to the default. Otherwise you could crash the entire forum and need to revert it back to a week ago or ore. | ||

Hopefully I can find it okay! And yeah dont worry, I havnt even changed my main forum to phpbb3 yet, I am doing this practice stuff on a spair forum, as I am so scared to death of messing up my real thing - Want to get it sorted before I do it on my main forum, so I know what im doing! - Have been taking down notes !

Ok... summary.
Want to change the header graphic (main logo): 1. duplicated Style. 2. Gone into imagesets (for that style) and found the main logo. Designed new logo to replace it. Even kept it the same dimensions so I didn't upset anything. "Replaced" the image by uploading my new image. When I preview the style it has a blank area (not the old logo or the new one)... what gives? Completely at my wits end.

1. You must give the (myfree/myfast/myfine)forum.org link to your forum. A link should be given to the problem if at all possible. Do this whether you think it is important or not.
2. Search on the forum and on howtodoit for your problem before posting. 90% of the posts we get have easily found answers if you search on a couple of key words from your post. If this is not the case report the keywords you searched on and we will make sure search works for the next person to try the same search terms. Each time someone doesn't bother to use the search, questions accumulate in the forum making it harder for people to actually find answers! as people searching will end up finding the question and not the answer. 3. Keep it to one support question per thread, if you have another question start a new topic. This will help others using "search" to find answers. |
