You can do what you like with a template.
With the template you are on you should really just replace the existing banner with one of the same size.

The current logo is the one that was already on the template and it's size is only 175x62 I was wondering if I could add a banner at the top my forum but it's size is bigger than 175x62 |

You have full access to edit the html of the templates. So if you learn html there are no limits. | ||

That template logo has no defined height or width which is a good thing when you do a straight swap, you will however need to change the table cells width to match the width of the new logo size.
what you need to look for, after the closing bracketshould be the code for your logo.
