My sister and I have been talking about starting a forum for under 16's. Just a place where they can go and chat safely. She has 2 young children, and whilst they post on my forum, she though it would be nice if they had a place of their own, with people their own age.

So what I want to know is:

a) is this type of forum allowed? because we wouldn't want to be accused of anything improper

and b)Is there some way to make it secure for them?

You can create such a forum, but a forum is like any other online activity and cannot be considered totally secure. You might want to consider disabling private messages for your users as a step in the right direction.

You could also make the forum private[hidden] in permissions.
Then you have to give your users permission to see the posts in that forum.
