A spot the "bug" t-shirt challengeWe are still seeing instances where people can end up with Style Management Edit showing:
Style-----------------template
myff_myforum1-----subSilver
So they think they are on a user template, but are in fact on subSilver
I don't know how this happens
The first person to explain how this happens, so I can understand it and repeat it, will get a myfreeforum t-shirt.

I done it before, on my bands forum http://bands.myfastforum.org
but the original subsilver is fine, but when i copy it to myff_Bands1 the Text color turns up white on the Myff_Bands1 but the rest of the subsilver template is correct. though i did manage to destroy the original subsilver before, forgot how

Not enough! On a test forum I have copied subSilver and this problem has not occurred.
I need a method to see what I said in Admin/Styles Management

If you have subSilver installed, as most people do, you will see:
subSilver------subSilver
that is not a problem.

**holds up an unsteady hand** I did it too I think (www.pagantoday.myfreeforum.org)
I dunno how I did it but it won't let me delete it
I think I first copied the Subsilver template into myff_myforum1
- but I deleted the first copy after I made a copy of myff_myforum1 into myff_myforum2
Then I think some how I copied the subsilver one into slot 1 again and I ended up with the myff_myforum1-subSilver that I now can't delete.
I dunno, I just completely messed up some how. But I still have the other three to play with

Well you can delete them quite easily.
Just copy the delete link that comes up with the can't delete error. Replace in the link "deletesubsilver" with "delete" and enter the new link in the address bar.

Have played about doing what I think you are saying you were doing and have not seen the bug occur. So you will have to explain it cleared for a t-shirt.

Erm, I just did this and it deleted the actual SubSilver one not the myff_myforum1-subSilver
ps - I did try editing the title on one of them but I'm not sure it was myff_myforum1 - but worth a shot. If not then I honestly cannot think how I did it.

If it really was easy to do, it would not be a competition!

Sorry, I honestly cannot help you there then

IT all depends on what you make into myff 1 and what you do to it. The second you change something in myff 1 it goes wacko and turns into subsilver. If you keep the template the same that you did without changing something then it will not happen.

Plainly it is not as simple as that or it would happen to everyone.

This is wierd. I'm the only one not affected by this. I've changed my templates twice before going back. And everything is fine.

Most people are not effected. I have not managed to repeat the issue. Hence the competion.
But plainly there is a bug somewhere.

From the sounds of it I personally think it's something to do with the re-naming of subsilver to the xxxx_myff1 names it gets given, I think it gets confused somewhere along the line and doesn't rename it correctly.

I'm not ruling our anything, but I think you are wrong, software does on the whole work in consistant fashion, and the word subSilver can only come from the subSilver template....

No, I'm pretty sure I never tried to edit my subsilver at all. Plus surely if I did that I would have ended up without a subsilver and just myff1 but I have both
I just remember deleting myff1 , then using myff2 then after a while fiddling I copied subsilver again to myff1
But I think admin already tried that.

Nick i think is right. I believe the culprit is the sub red and other sub templates. On my http://templatetester.myfreeforum.org forum i copy subred as myff_template1 but when i view the CSS
Link color= 80000 shows for sub red. But when i copy it and view it as myff_templatetester1
it shows it as
link color=006699
Which is the same as subsilvers
Though after a few reloads to myff_templatetester1 it shows up as its suppose too. Though its happening again when i added subrebel.
I have jsut subsilver and subrebel and when i copied subrebel it to myff_TT1 it shows some of subsilvers CSS but when i just view the subrebel style through my profile it shows fine.
When i view Myff_TT1 as my style it shows subsilver and rebel and i cleared my cache a few times thorugh firefox so it isnt my browser im 95% sure.
How is that happening go to my templatetester forum and youll see. As the name says its for testing

But does it say subSilver where it should not in styles management?
and what is the exact sequence to recreate the issue?
I have copied subRebel without an issue.

All i basically did was copy it to myff_templatetester1 and viewed subrebels CSS code to Myff_templatetesters1 and they do differ in some areas which im guessing they shouldnt. View my template tester forum and youll see. Just copy subrebel to myff_templatetester1 and compare the CSS codes from subrebel to Myff Tester1.
Damnit i broke it my forum!
O hold on i discovered it!
Here the images.
I copy myff_templatetester1 to myff_templatetester1 and it went into a 2 debug modes here 1
Click to see full size image
I cannot reproduce the 2nd one.

Exactly how many bugs are there?!?! Here is a weird one i found.
Im 100% sure this shouldnt happen.
When i click the down area where myff_bugforum3 is all it shows is myff_bugforum3.
I cant reproduce the subsilver least not tonight.
P.S. Can you fix my template tester forum?

well you need to delete the subSilver and there are instructions on doing this.

give me a second i figured out how to do it.
|
CodyT07

okay heres how i did it. Though it seems to happen randomly.
1.Copy subsilver to myff_forumname1.
2.Copy myff_forumname1 to myff_forumname1
3.It may create a random myff_forumname 2 to 4
4. Click to edit one of those and youll get this screen.
Though its random when it happens.

copying a template to itself should have been something blocked to start with which is my fault
but really someone should have realised that this was not a clever move and as it produced an error message along with it, it was probably a bug worth reporting.
Hope you like the quality of the t-shirt especially as you will now be up to 3 of them

No. You still want to copy them e.g. myff_forumname1 to like myff_forumname4 or so youll have a backup.
Do i have the most t-shirts now ?
Also can you send a currency. I dont care how much i just want to see what money looks like over there.

I have only blocked copying to self. e.g. you can copy 1 -> 4 etc, just not 1 -> 1
And here see the lot

Was it already containing broken templates?
Otherwise how else can it happen?
|
CodyT07
|
i dont know but i did notice,
I had in my profile set the template to be myff_templatetester4. i deleted myff_templatetester4 but then this happened.
Which im guessing it shouldnt or should it? As i went back to my profile and it got reseted to subsilver.

| admin wrote: | Was it already containing broken templates?

Alright i did it again.
Steps how.
1.Copy subsilver to myff_forumname1.
2.Copy forum_name1 to forumname1 and you should get a 702 error or so i think.
2. Exit out of the admin panel and go to your profile and set your profile to myff_forumname1 and youll get the PhpBB White Screen of Death Debug.
From my above post. Delete templates are still appearing in users profiles so a user could crash the template on you. .

Since im at it.
I think the it should say a bit more then 787 more like sorry you cannot copy exact templates or so.
Also when i copy myff_tt1 to myff_tt1 a 2nd one is showing and when i edit it says
| Quote: | You are editing a template that does not appear to be installed in your configuration
Possibly the "style_name" or "template_name" in the file theme_info.cfg, does not match the template name "myff_templatetester2"
This is required for the template editor to automatically install the template. Please report this issue on the support forum. |
And i cant delete it unless i copy a different template to the 2nd one.
by the way for time tt=template tester
