A new private message portal componentI'm just a little curious if anyone would want this, as I have created what I feel is a strong version of this and have tested it on my own forum.
Yes Or No?

No. You can only have so many portals then it lines up side by side and really i dont see a use it as
1.You can have it configured for a pop up.
2.Get an e-mail for the PM.
On average how many pms you recieve as its better if they were post as it makes you rforum look better.

1. the reason I have coded this is so the popups can be removed by choice
2. not everyone will check their email first and the portal will only appear if logged in anyway.
3. why anyone would want a personal message posted openly on a forum I don't know, it's private because the sender wants it that way, especially if they are reporting something.
4. If I can be bothered, I'll put the faq, search and so on.... into a portal so it's only the logo of the forum in the header, thus allowing the index to be higher up so less scrolling.

1.You can have them not pop up
2.Read 5
3.How many pms does the average forum have in a day?
4.See 5
5.From my ealier post you can only have so many portals and certain template the start to line up side by side, others you have to scroll a long way down, but for those who would like it go ahead.

you know the we only need so many portals thing is pretty aimless, the whole point of having lots to offer is that people have a choice of which ones they want to use, also the pm portals height is actually smaller than the google search portal.
Don't forget with screen resolutions getting bigger dual portal will become more useful, I noticed link exchange using my dual portal setup and it looks clean.

Thank you the dual portal when i had in mine when i origanally made it was to offer more without needless scrolling. but in order for it to be successful youll need to decrease the forum size in width. which i really cant do much right now as i injured my wrist in gym playing football.(for symon yes your football) i think there is (or was) a template called "sub portal" which i think has the faq and stuff as a portal.
Almost anything can be made as a sub-portal jsut some table codes and i tend to get what i want.

It has been awhile and I have heard nothing on this. I was wondering where this went?

I sort of assumed Nick had posted the code, in which case anyone can use it, the only differences between a user and an official component is that a couple less configuration lines need to be entered under OPTIONS and there is a template already there for use.
I do tend to drag my feet on making components official, as there is a good chance that the unofficial version will get feedback and have some changes made as a result.
But if Nick thinks it is finished and reposts the code here, I will make it official.

I have sent pm from myself to the editor and back and it does work, but I will test it on my other forum.
ok tested this a great deal and for some reason having the index set at 100% and the column for the portal at 100% I'm left with this bloody great gap. screenie below:
Click to see full size image
So the only way to keep it all tidy is to restrict the width of the cell the portal appers in to 150.
example: http://gundamage.myfastforum.org/index.php
as you can see the top one is strecthed across the page and the one by the side of the index is shrunk to fit the cell, yet they are the same component using 100% width. the side column is currently set at 150 which I fell is resonable even for the smaller resolutions.

i would like to add this has the code been posted or have you decided against it??

Nick try my version of the portal code when editing subsilver use this in the
overall header. Then add the overall footer part.
As that usually fixes the align problem.

Read what I said it's not an alignment problem, it's a width one, but I will re-look this tommorrow on http://Portalogy.myfastforum.org

No need to, just had a review of the code I previously had, I missed a conflicting piece of table code which threw off the width. It's all sorted just waiting for someone to test it and leave feedback then I'll submit it for approval.
