A big Thanks....Having read through some of the posts on support, shortly after beginning my forum, I thought "What in the world was I thinking, setting up a forum when I know sod all about making webistes?" - and had this confirmed when trying to make web pages - what a MESS I made!!
I referred to Symon's "How to do it" guides, which assisted me greatly in making a couple of webpages, but got stuck again on trying to link my forum to the home page. I searched support. I searched "how to do it". Couldn't find anything (probably used stupid search terms).
Feeling defeated, I reluctantly posted in support to ask for help, quite prepared to be told what an eejit I was. Not so.
Admin, Symon and Bravo all responded and gave enormous support with clear, consise instructions. This way, they did not "do it for me", but rather enabled me to do it myself by providing me with the knowledge they had and allowing me to put it into practice on my template.
I'm chuffed to say I didn't stuff it up!! The support I received was great because it did not keep me ignorant by having it done for me, rather gave me a small understanding of how some HTML works and that has encouraged me to do more. I've been playing about with my forum and linked website since, trying to make it look better to entice visiting guests to join, and am really enjoying the new learning experience.
I have not been a member here for very long, but having dug through other posts on here, it seems some people have been quick to criticise negatives (and it has to be said, the majority of criticism I have seen has been some members own ignorance or childishness in not getting the impossible and stamping their feet a little) but others are not so quick to express their gratitude when they have a positive experience.
This Support site is a god send, as are Symons guides. I wonder where we as members would be without the endeavoring support? As much as there are members who are perfectly knowledgeable in their area, there are members whom like me are inexperienced and would have got absolutely nowhere with their forums/websites without the support of the technical and artistry team here. I intend to pop on here as often - not to annoy the bejesus out of the mods, but to follow the threads and learn as I go by reading the guides and threads, and one thing I would like to see more of are threads like these which offer thanks and positive feedback.
After all is said and done, the support we have here is free and we are very lucky to have that in place, I think Admin and the Moderators deserve not only thanks for their support but a blinkin sainthood for putting up with some of the crap they have thrown at them. They do this because it is their passion and they get satisfaction from it. It helps to give a bit back, and credit where credit is due.
Ok, NOW I'll shut up.

Thank you
Always nice to hear good feedback,
It has to be said there are a lot of negatives on here, but these are aimed at the lazy few, that really do not wish to learn, but would rather get us to do it all for them.
Then there are the few that have been a round a long time and yet still they learn nothing as they do not search or try and work things out for themselves, or even try.
We try to answer all question quickly, I do tend to leave the lazy ones a little longer , in the hope they will search the answer....
I have been trying to do something on my game server now for 4 days, every day i have spent time goggling and asking on many support forums, 1 forum 4 days later still have not answered my post.
Still the facts are that between the mods sites, HOWTODOIT,Vidtuts,Portalogy and here, 95% of the answers can been found, and we do not mind helping those that try and help themselves first.

There are some negatives as we do get frustrated when people want to do the unnecessary without learning the skills needed to do it.
No forum really needs more than a logo change at most to do well, in fact we have a large number of very successful forums where the forum has not even got its own logo.
In other words other changes to a forum are only ever about an admin that does not know what matters for a forums success or an admin that wants to play. Now I want people to play and learn, I enjoy the fact that many people have cut their teeth on all sorts of skills here But the learning has to be happening, otherwise all we are doing is a lot of terminally useless work that won't actually help a forum and is just encouraging people to think they can get things done for them without them spending the time needed to actually learn and benefit from the learning.

When I mentioned the negatives, what I was getting at were the members who come here for help and then post utter crap when they don't get what they expect which is usually the impossible.
I don't see any negatives from mods or admin. Yeah, they speak their mind but there's nowt negative about that, and often it's needed.
I've posted once for help, and it was very forthcoming and educational.

that is true.
my successfull but now defunct old clan site just had a change of colour to black using a ready made template and a simple logo change.
after the user base was there, that was when i learned off here and make cosmetic tweaks here and there. Best of all, i havnt forgotten what ive learned so can pass that info on if someone needed it or use it again if i make another forum. Just a pity the clan went supernova and disbanded.
