There are loads of dodgy free providers out there, they are 10 a penny and anyone who has tried them has not got a good word to say about them!
We also have other domains though it that is what you mean?

Why would we want to advertise the competition even if they are crap?
We can't on general principle let such links be posted.

Just google - 'Forum providers'
And you will see dozens of pages filled with links to crappy site.

Why would you ask this? *Aaron thinks that the poster is from another forum service and wants to know what they think of his. Crappy advertising if you ask me!*

Look mate, I have been around them all.
MFF is by far the best free forum service.
Go on others if you wish, but prepare your computer and your sanity for a whole world of hurt.

I have been on most of them to and I wouldnt say that any of them are better than MFF.

It is an old story found else where on these forums, but we started the service after someone started a "free forum" and I looked into their system and realised how bad it was, I then looked further a field and realised that at least the large majority of free forums were equally awful.
They fall down on speed, reliability, advertising, support and generally awful attitude.
I was looking for something new for the parent company MarsJupiter LTD to get into at the time, as whilst MJ was flush with fund, and had and still has a steady income stream, that income won't last foreever.
I figured a free forums system was something we could easily do and be the best at, not because we are so inherently fantastic, though I actually believe we are very good, but simply because the competition was so bad I just knew that by having a commitment to the services and by having deep enough pockets not to need to take money out of the system for a long time we would easily outclass the competition.
I think we have proved this to be the case, and the commitment continues. We are about once again to raid the MJ company coffers to put more investment into this system, pushing back the point at which myfreeforum makes money well into next year.
I don't think you will find that attitude anywhere else.
Are we perfect? Well of course not, we don't have time time to add everything to the system we'd like to, and we can't provide absolutely all the support people want, though with the help of our moderators and members we are by far the best there is for support.
I'd challenge anyone who has been annoyed by us saying:
in an attempt to get people to help themselves, to see just what support they would get on other systems! our level of support is better than support on almost all "paid" systems let alone "free" ones.
Last but not least we do have a sense of ethics, some free forums systems for example are now doing phpbb3 which is unstable and not intended to be run on non test forums. We now have a phpbb3 free forums system ourselves, we could probably make money by releasing it, but we won't. It is not fair to give people forums that may break down and may not be upgradable.
ps) We might for the fun of it, set up a domain in the next week or two which will allow people to create phpbb3 forums, just for them to look at and play with. Such forums would be be created on the strict understanding that they would be deleted by us after a short time and are for testing only.

I could reccomend a few to you but as I like you; I won't throw you on their doorsteps. I've been around a few and PAID to leave one to bring the forum here. I paid out of my own pocket to leave because I got zero support, the other forums were a mix of porn, crap and worse.
IN MOST cases, I'd say what you pay for, the less you pay, the less you get. Luckily MFF IS the ONLY exception to this rule. You get Big Bang for no Bucks. Nowhere compares to this setup and it gets better and better!

Well I want to sign up right away for that. I want to see what the whole fuss about phpbb3 is about. I have heard that it is supposed to be so much better than 2, when it doesnt crash.

Our view is quite simply that whilst it is a bit better in some respects and there is an inevitability that it will be the system people choose, the reality is that it is over complex for most people, and they would be better off staying with phpBB2.
It is discussed elsewhere.
