How is it best to advertise? I have added my forum to topsite's top forums, it is on google (although you have to type avpforums not avp forums, which is how i would like it.) I have an advert on you tube. i advertise on several forums, yet no people have joined in 2 weeks, and it's only been up for 3. i only have 116 posts and the only person who did post has now stopped.
has anybody got any tips on advertising and getting successful?

It has to be said that one person starting a forum unless it is very specialist does not stand much of a chance, especially if they don't bother to leave links _________________

Advertising is not your probem , i fear.
You have as you say 116 posts
81 of these are in
general chat 20
introduction 35
Rules 13
ideas and help 13
That leaves 35 posts dotted around
Ask yourself why when you advertise so much no one is joining ??? Because there is no back bone to it.
I would not join a forum about something i like if there is nothing on there for me to read, it shows lazness. _________________

so do you suggest that i add more topics in the sections that are most important to it? i've added a few polls in a few sections, but i guess that that is not enough. I'm gonna start on that now. then carry on with advertising, getting new members etc.
thanks

You need posts ,, time an time again i say this to people.
No one joins an empty forum.
No more sections you have too many i think already, but on topic posts, guides pics links etc etc ,, should help you. _________________

The fastest growing forum I know now has
| Quote: | Our users have posted a total of 121729 articles
We have 380 registered users |
The most active member was the forum admin for quite some time. He engaged everyone in interesting and thought provoking articles. He kept it fun, and still does. There are 3 admins and I think about 7 mods there now and hardly a bad word is said by anyone to anyone.
It takes a lot of work to build up a forum like that, he has posted about 20,000 posts, which is a lot, but that means other people have posted 100,000. I was one of the earlyish members on there and I have only 800 or so on it.
I think an active forum needs an active admin....for the first 3 months or so at least, set yourself a target of posting say 10 meaningful posts a day. By the end of the three months you wont be starting so many topics, and you'll probably find by that time, most of your '10 a day' are answers to other peoples threads _________________

See, in the few minutes since I made that post, there has been an extra 17 posts and by three different people. It's like that for around 16 hours a day pretty much _________________

And, some advice: No one will join a forum, if the Forum Site Admin is not active all the time. I have the highest Post count and post atleast 10 posts per day on my site. The first 20 members, will mostly be relying off the old timers, such as YOu as the Site Admin, and The first 5 members from the first few days of operation....so being a Site Admin, means having A LOT of posts will help out!!
This is what I did!
It is working good for me. _________________
