A new forum has been formed with similar content to ours and the owner has e-mailed the members on our forum that have visible e-mail and website addresses with an invite to join his forum. We have had confirmation and complaints of this from members.

My question at this point is does this constitute spamming?

Step

1. ask them to stop

2. take away theri pm rights

3. then ban them

4. if that all fails then report here

People like that like drama do not play in their hands,,

We get many spam posts on here , you do no t see us replying or anything, they just get wiped, then the user removed if need be.

What Kaz failed to mention here is the full story. I had been a member of Kaz's forum since inception and about the 4th most active poster. Due to what I considered to be over moderation, I decided to leave andset up my own forum. The content however is not disimilar as in the case of most of the other countryside forums. I did however try to diversify posts to make a difference and to offer different topics . I had no intention of disrupting their forum and having been there from the start had made some very good and close friends. I did not want to go back on there and put my new site address as my signature as that would have been a blatant slur to them. Neither did I wish to try and poach their members, and so a few close friends and family came to join my site. We currently have 32 members, the majority being family or relation members.
I did not tell Kaz I had started a new forum and had not been back on her forum either. I did email a couple of people I considered to be good friends to invite them to come and look in on my forum, but at no time did I ask them to abandon OTG or did I say anything bad about their forum. 2 days after I had started my site one of the few people I had emailed obviously told Kaz I had my own forum. I recieved a telephone call from Kaz's husband in a very distressed state and telling me I had let him down and that I had not told them I had started my own forum ?? Do I have to ?? and he considered me a friend etc. I considered him a friend as well and if you look at some of the posts on their forum you will se the hospitality I had extended to them is quite overwhelming. He ranted and raved and ended up slamming the phone down on me.
I was then banned from their forum immediately. Like I say I had also made friends on there and now I had no other means of contacting them as our only line of communication was via the pm system.
I have been asked via their moderators today to change their user names on  my forum at Kaz's husbands request because he did not want people to see they were associated with me ??. I have done this without hesitation, as I stress I had no intention of harming their site.
My reason for leaving was because of what I considered to be over moderation  and pettiness, a typical example as shown here today, and to that end I started my own site so I could continue to enjoy the forum as I want it. This is exactly what Kaz and her husband did when they started OTG. They left a site called Green wellies for the same reason, they did not like the moderation and  started virtually their own mirror image of that forum. I do wish them well on OTG and hope they will stop this sour grape nonsense and the forums can continue in the good spirit they should.

I am locking this, the support forum is not the place for disputes between forums.

There is inevitably a certain amount of what a forum would call "spam" when a forum fall out occurs.

Symon has outlined how to deal with it.

Unless it is really out of hand, then there is no point in the support forum getting involved.
