Server load balancing

Whilst overload does not seem strictly to be the issue experienced with speed in the last hour for those on the Slarti server, there is no question that that Slarti has about 50% more load than the other servers and is also despite being a powerful server technically the slowest we have.

Therefore it seems expedient to start transferring some forums over to Zaphod over the next week or two.

In light of the issue this evening I thought I'd share this graph. The bit to worry about is the high blue line at the right end. This traffic does not seem to be a DOS attack, but may be explainable if a forum has suddenly become manically popular as can happen if a particular page gets exponential publicity, or it may be some rogue search engine spiders.

The other blue peaks and green peaks are not an issue as they are backup processes.

Have flipped a single forum over to Zaphod, only a dead forum as I want to do quite a bit of testing before switching live forums.

The last time forums were moved was in Jan/Feb as a new server was deployed. A lot has changed on the system since then, and moving needs to be carefully checked out.

I think the urgency is a lot less now that the server has been rebooted.
