Hi, we've started a move, got the export file (fine, worked wonderful) setup the forum on a new server, no problems - even managed to upgrade to phpbb3.2.
Now we're testing 'usability' and come across a slight snag, in that any & all quotes (some 4,000+ of them) still point to the myff forum & not to the new one, is there any (easy) way of changing them, or will we have to trawl through the whole of them manually?

Sorry, should have said "links to other threads on the forum" e.g.

Okay so manually entered quotes.

This is possible to fix via an SQL query or a php program that looks at the post text.

But it is a programming exercise really, and a few hours work to figure out potentially.

But I'm sorry to say you are now on the wrong support forum for help at that level. This is an import tasks needing the help of your new host.

My bet is a php program would be easier, a lot of mysql is getting better at the type of query needed, but I think direct SQL might be challenging or impossible, but php would be trivial, albeit not 5 mins work.,

I am considering 'moving' my forum http://carvoeirochitchat.myfastforum.org/index.php?sid

I am informed I need the database from here. How do I go about that and are there any costs involved?

Thanks.

You can pay for an export in the site shop, but there is now no need to move. The system is here to stay.

As soon as I have something more useful to say I will say it. I do understand that people want to know more.

Regarding the original poster's query, look into rewrite rules using .htaccess to see if it's possible to have the quote links rewritten from myfreeforum.org to your own domain name and top level domain. Not sure if it's possible but might be worth googling to see if you can try it on a local development version of your site. I can't offer guidance though because i'm knees deep on a project so just making the suggestion. Plus someone might post that it can't be done or why it shouldn't be done even if possible, as i haven't considered it in deep myself.

htacess works on the url and not the contents and so is totally irrelevant unless implemented on the myff domains which would be wrong on a number of levels.
