Hi Guys,
I was wondering how does someone get a job like the one you have? I mean what certification does one need to be able to do what you do for a living? I am currently looking into php certification, and web design; but i am unshore what direction to step foot in if i want a job with your company or something similar to what you do. What exactly is your job title in the it world? Well any info on the subject would be great!

Who are you talking to here?
If it's me, I have only a few odd training certificates....
But then no one is interviewing me!
These days for first computing jobs companies are looking for qualifications, they used to be red hot about people having degrees, but with all the different certifications schemes around these days that may have changed. _________________

Yes sorry!,
thanks for your feedback. I dont want to waist my time or money on those scams. I am truely intrested in being a support staff member; but am unshore where to start. Is it web developement, php, mysql certification, or a certain degree within a certain field. I am very intrested in your background, and what sort of things to study to be one of your underlings. If you could direct me to the wright field to go into it would be cool thanks.
Thanks agian
Jamie

Support staff here are not actually doing an employed job beyond the odd stipend.
Since forum support does not involve programming aside from JavaScript it is also not a good line into a programming job as such.
Since I have been programming for 30 years by background is way too complex to get into much, I could cite a somewhat blackhat youth to writing encryption used in a minor way by the MOD... 30 years covers a lot of ground.. _________________

Personally speaking from what I've seen, I'd focus on php programming tbh, almost all content management systems are based heavily around php, including wordpress and like it or not people love them even the most basic of blog tools.
Personally I'm happy focusing on web design and style tweaks, all though I have fiddle with some java script before with some positive effect. _________________ CALM TIME: When calm time is called, all posters in a topic must take time out to calm down.

I think what the admin was saying in his first post is that companies aren't looking for degrees or certificates. There are countless ways to get a real certificate, but still have NO CLUE what you are actually doing. They are looking for experience. I looked into a computer tech job that the manager didn't care if you had a degree or certificate, as long as you know what you're doing.
Personally, I think the experience is what matters. The admin starting as a blackhat shows that he wasn't formally trained when he got into it. (for those that don't know, hackers have two types.. blackhat and whitehat... blackhat uses security holes to their advantage, whitehat finds security holes and reports them to the company so that it can be fixed.... basically good and bad)
Just learn as much as you can, I plan on doing that and getting even more training along the way. The computer industry is constantly changing, so even after you stop getting degrees you need to be constantly learning new things. _________________

Sorry but I am saying that to get into the trade qualifications are needed at first.
I had a heck of a job getting a real job despite a lot of proven experience. I ended up as a damn trainee programmer _________________
