PostPosted: Fri Apr 22, 2011 6:29 am    Post subject: Forum Category Description Icons Request  Reply with quote

My forum: http://rti.myfineforum.org/index.php

Please indicate keywords you have searched on: Category Description icons

I would like to have icons for each of the ten forum categories at my site listed above. For example, at the site, the last category is TNARS Degree Programs. In the cell of that table, where the "TNARS Degree Programs" description is listed, I would like a transparent icon of, say, a sheepskin degree scroll, that would appear immediately before the actual words, "TNARS Degree Programs" in that table cell.

I can suggest other icons for the other categories, but wanted to know if anyone was interested in working on this beforehand.

Thanks!

AMR

Well you do have access to CAT_ID in the templates.

So roughly speaking

Code:

<img src="templates/myfn_rt1/images/caticon{carrow.CAT_ID}.png" />

Could refer to an icon per category and you'd just have to upload caticon10.png and so on.

That sounds swell! Thank you.

Anyone here interested in creating a set of ten pngs for me?

That is a heck of a lot of work. I would be willing to work on some of them, but I don't see having time enough to do all. What size of graphic are you looking for? And for the scroll, something like this?

Kat
Kat,

Let me play around with that item and see what size actually works for the Category rows in my forum shown here:

http://rti.myfineforum.org/index.php

If this is too much work, I fully understand. I don't want to unduly burden anyone.

you'd need to be clear about the images for each and every one

size, and what is required etc

In the code above is it

Code:
caticon{carrow.CAT_ID}.png

or

Code:
caticon{catrow.CAT_ID}.png

Thus for the icon in question would the exact entry be:

Code:
<img src="templates/myfn_rt1/images/caticon10.png" />

I am not clear on how to use the Cat_ID macro here.

Also, am I entering the is the admin config panel for a specific forum? Or must I create some sort of code in the forum index TPL?

I figured things out, so ignore the above bit related to where and how to use the CAT_ID macro for now.

I would like transparent png graphics that cannot exceed 25 pixels in height, and 50 pixels in length using a 72 pixel/inch resolution. For visibility, consider that the png will be set against a varying red background (see link to my site immediately below).

I need nine more forum category png graphics as the scroll done above was just peachy after I re-sized it. Thank you GentleD!

I list below the theme for the png as well as my simplistic suggestion that an expert can no doubt improve upon. My site, http://rti.myfineforum.org/index.php, is a religious site, so context is important here.

1. Topic of the Week - yellow light bulb signifying thinking things over
2. Membership Central - toolbox signifying how to make things work at my site
3. Biblical Studies - old bible
4. Reformed Doctrine - unfurled parchment nailed to a church door
5. Apologetics - highway sign labeled "Truth"
6. Reformed History - something like this: http://tinyurl.com/3vrzmra
7. Walk of Faith - stairway to clouds or bridge to sunset, etc.
8. Debates - a thumb up and a thumb down
9. Compliments, Suggestions, Complaints - a suggestion box

Thank you,
AMR

Okay, cool. I will see what I can do to help you with some of them. Give me a couple of days.

Thank you!

Okay, here is a couple to get us started.

For number 4 I couldn't make the church door work, it just didn't look right, but here is a unfurled parchment.

And for number 5, the road sign.

Let me know what you think.

Wow! Rapid turnaround!

They are fine. Could the parchment be a wee bit lighter with the nail more prominent just to get the effect of Luther's nailing the parchment containing the 95 Theses on the Wittenberg church idea across? You could capture the old church door effect something like this: http://tinyurl.com/44v8xk7

Yeah, I didn't like that version of the parchment myself. Here is a new version I did. I can work on adding the church door later. Here is what I have so far for the parchment.
