|
|
In the FAQ, making up part of the terms and conditions of the board provision, one of the things users are told they cannot do is:
| Quote: | | Allow the posting of pornographic material or links |
As the board you host on my behalf is used by a primary school, and is envisaged primarily as a ringfenced 'safe area' online where children can learn how forums work without exposure to the seedy sides of the web, imagine my dismay when I saw this ad at the end of a post by a ten year old!
Now, admittedly this ad is actually for a blog and not a dedicated 'porn' site, but the wording of the headline is clearly not appropriate for the users of a board such as mine. Blogs are notoriously unpredictable, given that they include whatever is on the writers' mind that week and it is difficult to be sure that similar, or worse, links won't appear in the future.
I have disabled the board while I consider the options but thought it wise to flag this matter for attention by your marketing team as I am aware that there are other users hosting boards with you for a similar audience. Is there any way to target ads more effectively, perhaps with the addition of a user interface that incorporates an indication of the age range using a particular board? Apart from anything else, such an addition should make it easier to attract advertisers who are seeking particular demographics.
Daryl Spencer.

Thanks for the quick response
I'll keep the board down for now. It will probably be a case of having to make regular checks rather than letting it ride - I don't want to face the wrath of parents at the school gates :/

I honestly would not worry over much, in the better part of a year this has been the one and only complaint about google adverts. _________________

I have no doubt of that. The google ads were one of the main attractions when I chose a forum, particularly as they are generally pretty inconspicuous. Unfortunately we have a largely technophobic parent population and can't justify paid for hosting just yet. I'm trying to break them in gently
However, if Google have started putting blog ads onto their servers, that take the heading of the last post as their title text, the potential for unintentially unsuitable 'wording' is huge.
It is also a potential loophole for undesirable sites to bypass the otherwise strong blocks that are in place and get some 'free' advertising for their 'wares'.
It might just be the hole in the dike that leads to a flood.. although I sincerely hope not.

Looks like the filter hasn't worked, I can see an 'Indian Porn' ad on this very thread:
(I shrunk it a bit so it didn't make the screen cumbersome)
